What is a Medicare Plan?
The Medicare system provides rebates for up to 5 allied health consultations (such as physiotherapy) per calendar year for individuals suffering from a chronic condition (present for 6 months or more). You might hear your GP or clinic use a few different acronyms—don’t let them confuse you! They all refer to the same helpful initiative:
- EPC (Enhanced Primary Care): This is the old name for the program, but many doctors and patients still use it today.
- CDM (Chronic Disease Management): The official, current name for the Medicare initiative offering these rebates.
- TCA (Team Care Arrangement): The specific plan your GP writes up when you need care from two or more allied health professionals (e.g. a physiotherapist and a podiatrist).
- No matter which term your doctor uses, as long as you have a valid referral, you can access your rebated sessions at Abound Physio.

Questions
In order to be eligible for an EPC / CDM plan, you must have been suffering from a chronic medical condition for 6 months or longer, or have a condition that is likely to last 6 months. Your General Practitioner (GP) will be the one who assesses your eligibility and provides you with the written referral. Once you have this referral, you can access up to 5 rebated physiotherapy consultations per calendar year.
If you are a brand new patient to Abound Physio (meaning you have never been treated at our clinic before), we offer a gap-free initial assessment under your Medicare plan. This is our way of letting you ‘try before you buy’, allowing us to properly assess your condition and giving you the chance to see if we are a great fit for your recovery journey.
If you have been seen at our clinic before—even for a different injury—a standard gap payment will apply to all of your Medicare-subsidised sessions, including the initial session of your new Medicare plan. You will still receive the Medicare rebate for up to 5 sessions, reducing your out-of-pocket expenses.
You must bring your written EPC/CDM referral paperwork from your GP along with you to your initial consultation. Without this, we cannot process your Medicare rebate. You should also bring your physical Medicare card and a debit card connected to a cheque or savings account so we can process your rebate on the spot.
You will be asked to pay the consultation fee in full at the time of your appointment. Once paid, our friendly reception team will electronically process your Medicare rebate on the spot using your physical Medicare card and debit card, meaning the rebated amount goes straight back into your bank account almost immediately.

To access physiotherapy under a Medicare Care Plan, there are three simple steps that need to be taken:
1. See your GP: Discuss your chronic condition and ask if you are eligible for an EPC / CDM plan. Ensure they specifically allocate physiotherapy sessions to Abound Physio.
2. Book Online: Use our convenient online booking system or call the clinic to secure your first appointment.
3. Bring your Paperwork: Arrive at your appointment with your GP referral paperwork, your Medicare card, and a debit card for on-the-spot claiming.
