Surgical & Recovery Conditions

Surgical & Recovery Conditions

Before or after surgery, we guide your recovery by focusing on function and strength. Our approach combines targeted exercises, manual therapy, and pain management strategies to rebuild confidence in your body and get you back to doing what you love.

what we treat

This includes major procedures like hip and knee replacements.

Pre-op: Physiotherapy focuses on strengthening the muscles around the joint and educating the patient on the post-surgical process, including how to use crutches or a cane.
Post-op: Rehab begins almost immediately, focusing on pain management, restoring range of motion, and progressive strengthening to help the patient walk and move with confidence.

This category covers injuries to connective tissues, most commonly the ACL in the knee and the rotator cuff in the shoulder.

Pre-op: Physios work to reduce swelling and restore as much range of motion and strength as possible to improve the surgical outcome.
Post-op: The rehabilitation is a structured, long-term process that starts with protecting the repair and gradually progresses to functional and sport-specific exercises to ensure a full recovery.

This includes a wide range of conditions, from a simple bone fracture to complex spinal fusions or disc surgeries.

Pre-op: For some spinal surgeries, prehab can help strengthen core muscles and improve posture.
Post-op: For fractures, the focus is on restoring joint mobility and strength after the cast is removed. For spinal surgery, rehab concentrates on core strengthening, proper movement mechanics, and safely returning to daily activities.

Physiotherapy is also critical for recovering from non-orthopedic surgeries (e.g., heart or lung surgery).

Pre-op: A physio will teach breathing exercises and improve cardiovascular fitness to reduce post-operative complication.
Post-op: Rehab involves supervised walking and exercise programs to improve heart and lung function and build endurance.
