FAQ – Abound Physio, North Lakes
What should I expect from my physiotherapy appointment?
Physiotherapy is a health profession focused on helping you overcome injuries, pain, stiffness, and other movement problems. Our highly qualified physiotherapists will conduct a thorough assessment to accurately diagnose your issue, work with you to create a clear rehabilitation plan, and begin hands-on treatment—all within your first session. Our goal is to understand your condition, educate you about your body, and start you on the path to recovery.
Is my appointment private?
Absolutely. All appointments at Abound Physio are conducted in private, one-on-one treatment rooms. Your entire appointment is dedicated to you and your treating physiotherapist; we do not use assistants, and there are no unnecessary interruptions. We are committed to ensuring your comfort and privacy at all times.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. Activewear, shorts, and t-shirts are ideal. This allows us to assess the relevant area and your overall movement without being restricted by clothing. We generally recommend avoiding dresses or jeans if possible. For any treatment on your neck, shoulders, or back, please choose a bra that unclips at the back rather than a sports bra or crop top, as this allows for easier access during your assessment.
How long are the appointments?
Appointment lengths are tailored to your needs and are usually mentioned during the booking process:
- Initial Consultations: 30 or 60min appointments are offered at Abound Physio. Please allow an extra 10mins around your appointment in case we are running late, you need to fill in paperwork etc.
- Subsequent Appointments: Again, 30 or 60min appointments are offered depending on clinical need.
Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment?
Yes, please bring:
- Your current method of payment (card or cash).
- Your private health fund card for on-the-spot claiming (HICAPS).
- Any relevant medical documentation, such as X-ray/MRI reports, referral letters (if you have one), and a list of your current medications.
- The required funding paperwork (e.g., WorkCover claim number, DVA referral, CTP approval, NDIS paperwork) if applicable.
Will physiotherapy hurt?
While some hands-on techniques, like deep tissue massage or joint mobilisations, may cause some temporary discomfort or tenderness, your physiotherapist will always work within your comfort level. The goal is to reduce pain, not increase it. If a specific technique is uncomfortable, please tell your physio immediately.
What treatments do you offer?
We offer a comprehensive range of evidence-based treatments, which may include:
- Joint mobilisations and manipulation
- Soft tissue massage and dry needling
- Shockwave (Focused)
- Exercise rehabilitation (strength, flexibility, and mobility programs)
- Postural and ergonomic advice
- Pain management and education
- Taping and bracing
How many sessions will I need?
This varies significantly based on your condition, how long you’ve had it, and your overall health. Your physiotherapist will discuss a suggested treatment plan and give you an estimated number of sessions and a timeline during your initial consultation. The goal is always to get you back to your best in the shortest time possible.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

- WorkCover (Workers’ Compensation)

Yes, absolutely. You are welcome to request a specific physiotherapist when booking. If you don’t have a preference, we will book you with the next available practitioner who is best suited to treat your condition.
What if I am running late?
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can occasionally cause delays. If you are running late, please call us as soon as possible.
- To minimize disruption for our other clients, your appointment will still need to finish at the originally scheduled time. The full fee will apply regardless of the shortened duration.
- If your delay is significant (e.g., more than 10–15 minutes), we may need to reschedule your appointment to ensure a thorough and effective treatment session. In this situation, a late cancellation fee of 50% of the appointment cost will be applied.
💰 Billing & Funding Options
What are your fees?

Payment is required at the time of your appointment.

Do you accept Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plans?

To be treated under WorkCover, you will need a valid claim number from WorkCover QLD and a current WorkCover medical certificate from your doctor that lists physiotherapy as part of your treatment plan. If your claim is pending approval, you may be required to cover the cost of treatment until it is approved.
Do you accept Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance claims?
Yes. Please ensure you have an approved claim number from your CTP insurer before your appointment. You may be liable for treatment costs if your claim is later rejected.
